Woodcraft 2
Medieval Weapons Web Page Assignment
The Competition:
Build a trebuchet or catapult that would throw a practice golf ball (ping pong ball) 18' and hit a 4 foot long wall that is 1 foot tall.
The trebuchet or catapult had to fit inside a 17" cube in some fashion. Parts of the device could be outside the cube when the device is being fired. Several students designed in methods to fold the arms so the machine would fit in the cube, but would also have long arms for throwing. Students could use marble rocks that were supplied, or bring in weights of their own. We also allowed rubber bands.
Students had 3 weeks to design, build and test their devices before the competition. Each student had 3 shots to hit the wall - the most hits would win a chocolate bar!!! Students were also judged for best looking and that machine also was awarded a prize.
