Course Description: This is a computer drafting course in which the student will be using the CAD Key Program. CADKEY is a powerful 3-D design and drawing tool. CADKEY’s straightforward, flexible menu makes it simple to produce intricate 3-D and 2-D layouts, and it has a built-in self pace tutorial. Some of the engineering applications in which CADKEY is utilized are: aerospace, automotive, consumer products, electronic packaging, instrumentation, machine design, medical research, fabrication, mold design, 3-D modeling and tool & die design. After learning how to use the CADKEY program, you will be well on your way to being able to take advantage of some of the most powerful computer aided design and manufacturing software available.

Instructional Objectives: The teacher's tasks will include developing in each student the following:

• An understanding of the basic elements of design.
• Skill in the basic drafting techniques and procedures used in preparing plans, details and pictorial drawings.
• Knowledge of occupations related to drafting.
• Skill in use of computer aided design programs.

Student Performance Objectives: The student tasks will involve the following:

• Creating technically correct detail drawings, both required and student selected.
• Demonstrating an understanding of drafting vocabulary, abbreviations and symbols.
• To complete evaluative opportunities with a passing grade.

• Completion of assignments including orthographic, geometric, oblique and isometric drawings.
• Completion of homework and writing assignments.
• Completion of student selected drawings.

Grading will be based upon a point system. Each project will be worth a number of points. These points are totaled, and you grade based upon the number that you earn.

• 20% - - Content Quizzes, Tests and Homework
• 30% - - Daily work in class on projects
• 50% - - Finished drawings

Assignments can be corrected for additional credit.

Attendance is mandatory. Students who are unexcused in excess of three times during a ranking quarter will receive no higher than a 69 for a grade for that quarter. Students who are unexcused in excess of 6 times in a semester class will be removed from the class and receive a grade of WF (withdraw failing).

Students will be given three unexcused tardies to class. Future tardies will result in the student losing 1 point for each offense on their final quarterly grade for each infraction.

Assignments missed due to excused and unexcused absences are the students responsibility to make up. Students have the option of correcting assignments for more credit. Tests and quizzes are not included.
