Course description:  In this second level of architectural engineering design, the students continues to develop creative skills as he/she designs an original set of house plans including the surrounding environment. 

 

 

Instructional objectives: The teacher's tasks will include developing in each student:

 

Ø      An understanding of the basic elements of the designing of a structure, how to combine these areas into a composite functional set of plans.

 

Ø      A skill in the basic techniques and procedures used in preparing architectural floor plans, details, elevations, and pictorial drawings.

 

Ø      To create a positive attitude towards the historical perspective of dwellings and architectural design.

 

 

Student performance objectives: the student tasks will include the following:

 

Demonstrate an understanding of architectural vocabulary, abbreviations, and symbols.           

 

Ø      Demonstrate the ability to evaluate the principles of good architectural design and function, both as a consumer and builder, in their residential selection.

 

Ø      Creating technically correct detail drawings, both required and student selected.

 

Ø      Searching, identifying and using information for basic architectural plans to complete their assignments.

 

Ø      To complete evaluative opportunities with a passing grade.

Grading:

 

Your grade is based on a point system.  Each project will be worth a number of points.  These points will be totaled.  Your grade is your number of points earned divided by the total possible points. 

 

·        20%--------------- Content quizzes, Tests and Homework

·        30%--------------- Daily work in class on projects 

·        50%--------------- Finished drawings

 

Assignments can be corrected for additional points.

 

 

Attendance:

 

Attendance is mandatory.  Students who are unexcused in excess of three times during a ranking quarter will receive no higher than a 69 for a grade for that quarter.  Students who are unexcused in excess of 6 times in a semester class will be removed from the class and receive a grade of WF (withdraw failing).

 

Students will be given three unexcused tardies to class.  Future tardies will result in the student losing 1 point for each offense on their final quarterly grade for each infraction.

 

Assignments missed due to excused and unexcused absences are the students responsibility to make up.  Students have the option of correcting assignments for more credit.  Tests and quizzes are not included.
